Granite Hills v Orange Glen
Sept 26th 2008 @ Home

After two consecutive away games, the Granite Hills JV Eagles football team found themselves on their home field hosting the Orange Glen Patriots. The Eagles pleased their home fans by winning their 4th consecutive game of the season with a score of 31 - 0.

The game was somewhat undecided for the majority of the first half with a missed Eagles field goal and mistakes on both teams, leading to some turnovers. But with a few minutes left in the half, the Eagles found their winning stride with two successful touchdown pass plays engineered by quarterback Cory Lockman; one to wide receiver Gilbert Perez and another to wide receiver Jesse Iglinski-Benjamin. With the Eagles defensive team demonstrating strong play, the first half ended with the Eagles leading 14 - 0.

The second half found the Eagles defense continuing to hold the Patriots scoreless. One pass play touchdown to Jesse Iglinski-Benjamin, a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Victor Castro, and a Gilbert Perez field goal found the Eagles adding 17 points to the first half lead. The Eagles overall strong team play combined with alternate quarterback Brenden Darsey sustaining the offensive rhythm in the last quarter resulted in the Eagles victory.

Notable mention goes to defensive linebacker Tyler Kidder for two Patriot quarterback sacks and one force fumble, lineman Donovan Truesdale for blocking a punt and seemingly unrelenting harassment of the Patriots center causing many erratic snaps of the football; and the rest of the Eagles defensive team. The defensive line consistently put pressure on the Orange Glen quarterback(s) while the defensive corners and linebackers shut down the Orange Glen passing and running plays.

And lastly, a special mention goes to the entire offensive line of the Eagles for playing a superb game of quarterback protection and run blocking. Left tackle Jesse Sheard, left guard Wyatt Doblado, center Ben Kimari, right guard Josh Dowler and right tackle Tyler Boscarino were a wall that made it difficult for the Patriot players to break through. They consistently adjusted their play based on called plays by the Eagles quarterbacks and made holes in the line for the Eagle running backs to blast through. The total offensive yardage gained (passing and running) by the Eagles was 309 yards.

Again, the final score was a Granite Hills Eagles win of 31 – 0.
