Granite Hills v Monte Vista November 7th 2008 @ Monte Vista |

After suffering a disappointing loss the week before, the Granite Hills Eagles found themselves on the playing field of the Monte Vista Monarchs for the 9th game of the season. With an Eagles strategy to fine tune the running game, the Eagles were eager to test the stamina of their running backs. This strategy proved successful enough to seal a 14 - 0 victory over the Monarchs. In the first half of the game, the Eagles defense was up to the task of limiting the Monarchs offensive drives. Showing alert defensive play, middle linebacker Johnnie Shoemaker's blocked punt and Mohamed Ghoulam's interception of a Monarch pass attempt in the end zone kept the Monarchs scoreless. This allowed the Eagles offense to gain playing time for their running backs. Consistent offensive running drives up and down the field, engineered by quarterback Brenden Darsey, culminated in a Freddy Halton run for a touchdown. A Gilbert Perez extra point ended the half with a 7 - 0 Eagles lead. During the second half, good defensive plays by Jordan Wilson and Tyler Kidder and the rest of the defensive squad kept the Monarch's at bay and did not let them score. With 4:30 left in the 3rd quarter, Gilbert Perez made an end-around run on the right side and, with determination, ran all the way in for an Eagles touchdown. Following a successful extra point kick, The Eagles found themselves ahead, and ultimately winning the game with the score of 14 - 0. Honorable mention includes Brenden Darsey for his steady quarterback play, Victor Castro and Johnnie Shoemaker for attentive linebacker play; and offensive running backs Kevin Valenzuela, Nate Huff, and Freddy Halton for alertly finding the holes in the Monarch's defensive line to run through.
